Dee Preston-Dillon, PhD

Dr. Preston-Dillon is Founder and Director of the Center for Culture and Sandplay, and originator of Imagine, the non-clinical use of sand to enhance creativity.  She is a world renowned expert who, for the last 36 years, has presented to, and consulted with, local and international groups, clinics and clinicians.

Trained in the 1980s with Dora Kalff and founding members of STA, Dr. Preston-Dillon grounds her sand therapy perspective in Kallfian Sandplay.  Dr. Preston-Dillon’s research examined symbol relevance for indigenous cultures.   Her approach to training and supervision reflects Ericksonian, Jungian, Narrative, and Humanistic/Existential perspectives, bridging myths, symbols, metaphors, and dimensions of consciousness with clinician experience.

Dr. Preston-Dillon serves as a graduate associate faculty member at The George Washington University, Loyola’s Pastoral Counseling, Argosy University’s Clinical Psychology program, and Johns Hopkins University.  Her professional contributions include innovations in the clinical use of sand, reflective supervision, cross-cultural, and narrative therapy.  She offers clinicians training in sand therapy anchored in direct immersion in the experience.
