Susan Osofsky, LCSW
Susan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Richmond, Virginia. She holds a BS in Education from Syracuse University and received her MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work in 1981. She has been in Private Practice full time since 1995, specializing in treatment of people with anxiety disorders, eating disorders and various types of trauma. Susan is a strong believer in the connection between the mind, body and spirit, and incorporates her history of being certified as a Life Force Yoga Practitioner into her work.
Before her work in private practice, Susan was a therapist on a Crisis Intervention team at a Community Mental Health Center for 9 years. She assessed and treated members of the community in crisis, for suicidal ideation and psychiatric decompensation. She was a member of the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Team and provided debriefings for the police, fire and rescue departments. Prior to that, she worked in Community Corrections, and was a therapist in a residential drug treatment center for court ordered convicted felons.
Susan’s interest in treating people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder was born of having been what she describes as a “teenaged hand washer”. She has received extensive training in various treatment methods and has been successful in treating people with this disorder for 15 years. She has found that once a clinician understands how to effectively assess and treat OCD, they discover that most clients make huge strides in recovery, fairly quickly. She always reserves time in her schedule for those struggling with OCD and for supervision of therapists treating them.
